Lyrics:

WMS Duane Street Fall Semester 2009

This is a song I wrote that uses only two notes: C (ÒdoÓ) and E (ÒmiÓ).  The children will eventually learn to play this song on the xylophone.

High Low

       by Oran Etkin

High low, thatÕs the way we go

High low, walking through the snow

High low, thatÕs the way we go

High low, high low, high low low low

Mi-do, thatÕs how you play high low

Mi-do, anywhere you go

Mi-do, thatÕs how you play high low

Mi-do, mi-do, mi-do-do-do

1960s, wrote this

classic jazz composition.

Hey--- tell me whoÕs that man?

Is he selling apples and bananas?

Is he selling slippers and pajamas?

NO!

Tell me whatÕs his name.

Under My Bed

       by Oran Etkin

I have a cow under my bed

I have a cow under my bed

She says moo moo all through the night

She says moo moo all through the night

(repeat with different animals that the children choose)

This is a song in the less common rhythmic meter of 5/4 (5 beats per measure)Ña rhythmic pattern that college music students often have difficulty with if they have not been exposed to it, but young children are able to grasp with no problems because they learn intuitively instead of over-thinking the rhythm.

Give Love On Christmas Day

       by Jackson 5

Why donÕt you

Give love on Christmas day

Even the man who has everything

Would be so happy if you would bring

Him love on Christmas day

No greater gift is there than love
